5 Steps to salvation and a new life in Christ
1. Realize that all of mankind is flawed and wicked; that you are a sinner and that God knows the truth of our hearts. He is righteous and his law says that sin requires a payment.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 3:10-12 & 23 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
2. Believe that Jesus Christ paid the price for your sins; once and for all when he died on the cross for all who would accept him, believe in and live for him.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth (showed) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
3. While a sincere acknowledgment of your sin and acceptance of Christ is all that is necessary for salvation, there is more that God wants from you and more importantly for you.
John 10:10 The thief (Satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Luke 9:23-26 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.
4. Belief in Jesus is NOT enough; we must choose to give him more than just lip service. We must choose to give him our hearts and our lives by sharing Jesus with others and serving him through loving and serving others.
James 2:18-19 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Romans 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
5. Repent of your sins and resolve to live for Christ and follow his teachings and commandments.
This may sound difficult but the fact of the matter is you were MADE by him and to live for him. When we choose not to do the will of our creator our lives are made more difficult. That isn’t to say that life in Christ will be easy or perfect but it is better for us, both here and most especially, in the afterlife!
If you are ready to step out and receive Jesus now; pray something like this. “Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I have failed to do all that I know is right and can only imagine how I have made you feel. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to live a life that brings glory and honor to you. Come into my heart and help me to live for you and to serve others. I trust ONLY in you for my salvation as I know that you are the only way to heaven. Thank you for paying the price for me.”
If you have prayed this prayer, I now encourage you to learn more about the God who has saved you through reading his word and service to him and others. Tell someone else, immediately about what Jesus has done for you and keep telling anyone who will listen. Give up activities and behaviors that you know don’t please God as the Holy Spirit moves you. You will know the wrong in your life and Jesus through the Holy Spirit will guide you to make the changes that will please him and strengthen your witness. You really should try to find a KJV BIBLE believing and teaching church for fellowship and increased learning and you should follow the Lord Jesus’ example in getting baptized after you accept him.
